Culture Shocks While Living in Korea

Man oh man did my soul leave my body the first time I saw her staring at me like that.

For me personally, I find it rude to stare at people because culturally as an American, I was taught staring is unbelievably rude. When I encountered the girl staring at me like that, I found her to be quite rude.

When I talked to other Koreans about my experience, they apologized and said the girl was being rude and that staring also isn't accepted as polite in Korean society. However, due to my experience, I began to think this kind of behavior was common as I did experience this a lot.

Some days, it would really grate my nerves as I wanted to be left alone and treated like another normal human being. Other days, I would make a game out of it and make the stupidest or rudest faces I could think of to get them to stop and see who would win the staring contest.

This was my first experience with culture shock in Korea and it was a, "Hey! Welcome to The Land of The Morning Calm" moment!
