The Dad's Gaming Dream? PlayStation Portal Review | Is It Worth It?
Welcome back, fellow gamers! If you're like me, juggling family life, work, and suddenly having two energetic dogs can make dedicated TV gaming sessions a rare luxury. That's exactly why I picked up the PlayStation Portal, and after spending significant time with it, I'm ready to share my honest, real-world experience.
In this comprehensive review, I dive deep into what makes the PlayStation Portal a game-changer for accessible gaming. From its surprisingly comfortable ergonomics and excellent screen quality to its seamless connection to my hard-wired PS5 (via BT Whole Home Mesh Network!), I cover the pros that make this remote player shine.
But it's not all perfect! I'll also discuss the limitations, like its reliance on your PS5 and a stable internet connection (even with gigabit internet!), the importance of battery life (around 5 hours of playtime via USB-C), and the critical need for PlayStation Link headsets (like the Pulse Elite or Pulse Explore) for optimal wireless audio – or a handy USB-C Bluetooth adapter for your existing headphones, with a note on latency.
