Pinch effect is the self-confinement of plasma i.e confinement of plasma by its own magnetic field. When plasma particles are streamed in a column then an azimuthal magnetic field is produced due to which each section of the column experiences a magnetic force in an inward direction and the streaming particles get squeezed. This squeezing of plasma particles is known as the Pinch effect. This video provides a detailed analysis of the Pinch effect.
