Replacing the LCD assembly on a MacBook Air M2 (Model A2681 in Midnight). OEM and aftermarket displays are available in all colors at Tech.c.
00:37 - Opening the Device
Remove bottom Pentalobe screws, suction off panel, then remove T3 screws and disconnect the battery using a plastic pry tool.
01:22 - Disconnecting Internal Components
Remove T3 screws and brackets for LCD connector, unplug right speaker and Wi-Fi antennas, and peel black cover to access another screw.
02:21 - LCD and Webcam Connectors
Unplug LCD and webcam connectors; leave the microphone. Remove more T5 and T3 screws and hinge covers.
03:15 - LCD Proximity Sensor
Remove cover for the LCD proximity sensor; unplug and peel it from headphone jack. Remove T5 screws for Wi-Fi/speaker assemblies.
04:07 - Removing the LCD
Use T8 to unfasten hinges and remove two central T3 screws. Carefully open the unit and lift out the damaged LCD.
05:08 - Transferring Proximity Sensor
Remove the T3 screw inside the hinge cable to release the LCD proximity sensor for transfer to the new display.
05:52 - Prepping New Display
Install proximity sensor on the new LCD. Transfer and install the bracket using a PL1 screwdriver.
06:37 - Mounting New LCD
Remove foam, align top case, open hinges, and secure proximity sensor. Reinstall six T8 hinge screws.
07:33 - Reconnecting Display Cables
Plug in LCD connectors and reinstall T3 screws and bracket. Begin Wi-Fi/speaker reassembly on both sides.
08:44 - Securing Wi-Fi & Speakers
Click in speaker and antenna connections, then use T5 to secure modules starting with the outer screws.
09:27 - Hinge Covers & Final Brackets
Reinstall hinge covers with T3 screws, then secure all remaining brackets, taking care to match them properly.
10:20 - Battery & Function Check
Reconnect battery and plug in to verify LCD works before final reassembly.
11:03 - Closing the Case
Clip the bottom case into place using the four retention tabs. Ensure top screws aren't too tight or it won't latch.
11:47 - Final Screws
Secure bottom panel using correct screws—longer ones at the bottom, shorter at the top—for a flush fit.
