Over the last several months, I've done a handful of videos documenting the plan, the unexpected teardown and diagnosis, and the cylinder head selection and overhaul for this Chrysler 318 small block engine. This is the original power plant for Mark's 1968 Plymouth Barracuda, and soon enough it will be back in its home under the hood of that car. Remember, this is a street driver with exhaust manifolds and 3.23 gears, and those factors have influenced every decision we've made for this build. But we want to have a good bit more power on tap in the low to mid range - you know, for those two lane backroad passing situations - and our careful camshaft, cylinder head, and piston selections should help us get there. In today's episode, I'm going to lay out the entire recipe and build plan for this spicy street 318, get into some of the finer points of prepping the short block components, prove once again that I'm terrible at operating precise measuring equipment, and finally start assembling this engine after what seems like a long time. Hey, I told you it wouldn't happen fast...
