After two years switching between the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Garmin Epix Pro, I settled on the Garmin for trail use. The Apple Watch wins on screen quality, processor speed, and everyday smartwatch features, but the Garmin's full button control works better when sweaty or cold, and its week-long battery means less thinking about charging. If you live in the Apple ecosystem and want a true smartwatch that also tracks workouts, the Ultra 2 is solid. If you prioritize sports tracking, navigation, and battery life over smart features, the Garmin is the better pick.
