Make Better Beats: Using Kick Triplet Subdivisions
If you've ever listened to Led Zeppelin, you might recognize this drum kick pattern. Triplet subdivisions have been a staple for drummers to create unique syncopations, and it's really no different for lofi, hip hop and other genres.
I like to put triplet phrases at the end of a 2-bar or 4-bar phrase because it provides a unique closure to a rhythmic idea. The magic happens (imo) when we start to incorporate high-frequency elements, like cymbals, hi hats, shakers, crashes and risers.
All those things can tie the beat together and make things sound very distinct and funky.
