Gordon Petrie, a 52-year-old IT worker and doomsday prepper, survives alone for a year in a fortified Boise house during the zombie apocalypse. After the outbreak destroys civilization, he establishes routines—rationing supplies, gardening, raising chickens, and avoiding mindless infected and dangerous human raiders called the Reclamation. On day 366, he rescues an injured woman named Beth, breaking his isolation. Together they join a radio network of survivors, barely escape multiple Reclamation raids, and undertake a dangerous 87-mile journey to New McCall—a walled community. There, Gordon transforms from solitary survivor to community leader, finding purpose, love, and hope in rebuilding civilization.
