Darren Ulrich survives a zombie apocalypse by constantly switching vehicles across America for 153 days. Starting in Bellhaven, he escapes south, scavenging fuel and supplies while evading evolving infected that hunt in coordinated groups. He changes cars repeatedly as they break down or run empty—Pathfinder, Tacoma, Outback, Explorer, van, Jeep, Durango, and finally a reinforced Suburban. After discovering the Oakmont safe zone fell, he reaches a Navy rescue operation in Mobile, Alabama. Evacuated to the Azores, he struggles with survivor's guilt and PTSD, eventually volunteering for dangerous reconnaissance missions back to the infected mainland, unable to stop running.
