The FSEG evacuation software buildingEXODUS was modified to simulate evaucation from the unique environment found on construction sites. The modifications included an ability to represent the different types of surfaces found on high-rise construction sites such as concrete floors, decking and decking with rebar and the different types of temporary connections between floors such as scaffold dogleg stairs, scaffold parallel stairs and ladders. In addition, the performance of workers on these different types of surfaces was also represented within the software. Finally, response time distributions appropriate for workers in the main building and the formworks were included.

The software was then validated using data generated from an unannounced evacuation of a high-rise construction site. The validation case includes ladders, temporary scaffold stairs and floors consisting of decking and decking with rebar.

FSEG have published a journal paper concerning high-rise construction site evacuation and the validation of the buildingEXODUS evacuation simulation model for high-rise evacuation applications. You can download the paper for free until 01/06/21 by following the link provided.
