This is how exactly individual grain (500 -1000 micron) looks like in the glacial sediment. X-ray micro-computed tomography gave me an opportunity to observe the orientation of grains in the subglacial sediment. It was part of my M.Sc. thesis aim to initiate and develop a methodology to identify specific issues associated with the investigation of the sample by using X-ray CT. From my observation, I could say X-ray micro CT provide better results in microfabrics than conventional microfabric and microstructural analysis. Few problems still exist in X-ray micro CT analysis (e.g. sample size, phase contrast).
