The networking landscape in Kubernetes is evolving. With the release of 1.18, many notable changes include adding the new IngressClass resource and modifications made to the Ingress resource. It introduces a new field that specifies how Ingress paths should match and support wildcard domains. There is still more work to be done, as Ingress providers continue relying heavily on annotations or CRDs to manage common use cases within Ingress resources such as TLS, cookies, priority, and path management. Attendees will learn more about the road ahead with the Service API and how this new API aims to bring vendor neutrality to the Ingress networking landscape. In this presentation, Kevin will demonstrate these recent changes and how they operate using Traefik and illustrate how these changes are the first step towards a more manageable toolset for Ingress.

Discuss the current state of the Ingress networking ecosystem, how vendors have dealt with constraints, and the challenges this presents for adopters of Kubernetes
Demonstrate using the new IngressClass resource and changes to Ingress in v1.18 using Traefik, MetalLB, and Kind
Discuss the forthcoming Service API specification and the role it will play in making Ingress easier to use and vendor agnostic -- Watch live at   / gianarb
