Kubernetes is becoming every day more and more pervasive: the number of Kubernetes clusters in each organization tend to proliferate, for different reasons, e.g., (multi-provider cost-optimization strategies, multi-region strategies due geographical law and latency constraints, scalability). However, this multitude of clusters cannot easily and consistently be managed from a single point of control. In fact, existing multi-cluster approaches have important limitations. For example, Kubefed v2 requires devops to deal with new sets API for pod placement, forcing people to operate with different paradigms and commands compared to a vanilla K8s cluster; others rely on statically cluster-allocated pods (i.e. GitOps) or have strict requirements on the clusters setup (i.e. CNIs, pod CIDR) to establish multi-cluster interconnections.
In this talk, Alex and Fulvio will discuss the current multi-clusters landscape and present Liqo (https://liqo.io) a recent project baked by folks at Politecnico di Torino, built to dynamically handle the multi-cluster complexity, enabling seamless migration of pods among different clusters. -- Watch live at / gianarb
