PVC Butterfly Valve
The butterfly valve is a representative rotary motion valve that opens and closes by rotating the valve in the pipe through which fluid flows. The most significant feature of butterfly valves is their ability to achieve very short face-to-face dimensions and low pressure loss.
Additionally, butterfly valves can be used for both shut-off and control purposes, and are currently widely used as a replacement for gate valves.
However, due to their structural characteristics, butterfly valves have the disadvantage of being difficult to design and manufacture for sizes smaller than 40A; therefore, 40A or 50A is the smallest available size.
Butterfly valves are classified into wafer type and lug type.
Wafer Type: This is the most commonly used type of valve, featuring bolt holes on the outer edge of the disc that are identical to the flange. The valve is joined by flanges on both sides and connected via a bolt-nut connection.
Lug Type: While standard wafer types only have bolt holes where a bolt is inserted and connected with a nut on the opposite side, lug types have bolt threads inside the holes, allowing for fastening with just a bolt without a nut. For these reasons, it is suitable for use in high-pressure or high-vibration environments, but demand is low due to its higher price compared to wafer-type valves.
The aforementioned wafer and lug types are further classified into lever and gear types based on the handle operation method.
The characteristics of butterfly valves are as follows:
Compared to other valves of the same diameter, it is compact and lightweight, making installation and handling easy and allowing for the stabilization of piping systems.
It has good flow characteristics and low fluid resistance, making it suitable for fluid control in large-diameter valves.
It can be installed in confined spaces, allowing for a compact system and reducing overall costs.
It features a quarter-turn (90° rotation) opening and closing mechanism for easy operation and allows for emergency opening and closing.
It can be used as an automatic valve.
Large-sized valves can be manufactured.
It has a low operating torque, making operation convenient. - It features a simple structure, low failure rate, and easy maintenance.
