Ball Valve
A ball valve is constructed by assembling a ball with a through hole in the center of the fluid path and a central axis inside the valve body. As the axis rotates, the ball rotates to open and close the valve. This structure offers excellent opening and closing capabilities and allows the handle to rotate 90 degrees.
It allows for a full fork equal to the inner diameter of the fluid-carrying pipe, resulting in minimal pressure loss. In addition, it features the ability to minimize leakage in the gland packing by rotating the valve shaft 90 degrees.
However, since ball valves utilize a circular soft valve seat, using them in a slightly open state results in force being applied to only a portion of the seat, which can cause deformation.
For this reason, it is advisable not to use them for controlling flow rates by opening the valve gradually, except when fully opening or closing the valve.
These ball valves have rapidly evolved, primarily for industrial applications, and offer superior sealability, durability, operability, and low fluid resistance compared to conventional valves.
The characteristics of ball valves are as follows:

Ball valves are broadly classified by shape into Ball Valves/Compact Ball Valves and Union Ball Valves. They are further classified by connection method into Socket type, Screwed type, and Flange type.
However, generally, Ball Valves/Compact Ball Valves and Union Ball Valves are classified into Socket and Screwed types, while Flange types are classified separately and commonly used.
Ball Valves/Compact Ball Valves are lightweight, have a simple structure, and are designed to be compact and affordable. They are widely used in marine and agricultural industries, particularly for hydroponics, aquaculture, and greenhouses.
Since the Socket type of Ball Valve/Compact Ball Valve is joined via bonding or welding, it has the disadvantage of requiring the pipe to be cut and reconnected when replacing the valve. Union ball valves are primarily used in industrial applications. Since the union design resolves the drawbacks of socket-type ball valves and compact ball valves, they offer the advantage of allowing the valve body to be easily and conveniently replaced by simply loosening the union.
Additionally, as one end of the valve can be bonded while the other is screw-connected, the connection method can be used in a more versatile manner compared to other valves.
Flange-type ball valves are widely used in locations subject to high pressure and vibration, as the flange is connected by bolts.
Furthermore, the bolt connection offers the advantage of simple valve replacement.
