The pochette or pocket fiddle was used by a dance master to teach dance steps to aristocrats. The fiddle was made to fit in the dance master’s pocket while demonstrating, then played to accompany the learning student. Often made from precious materials with ornate and unique inlay, the pochette was frequently a status symbol. #TreasuresAtMIM
