(09.18.09)—Entering their week four non-conference game against the Prairie du Chien Blackhawks, the Wisconsin Dells Chiefs were looking for a spark to get their offense in gear.
Having only scored one touchdown in their first three games, the Chiefs offensive woes were all tied to their passing game and the horrible start it was off to.
Playing solid on defense in their first three games, the Chiefs no only had to contain Prairie du Chiens explosive offense, but had to find a way to reach the red zone and score.
Turning in another fantastic defensive effort for most of the first half, the Chiefs found themselves tied at 7-7 with four minutes to play in the first half.
Giving up a quick score to the Blackhawks, Wisconsin Dells continued to look shaky on the ensuing kickoff.
Rather than collect their thoughts and regroup, Offensive Coordinator Jeff Buss had his team come out throwing. A sack on first down and then an incomplete pass to the undersized sophomore Cody Buss on third down forced the Chiefs to punt back to the Blackhawks.
A fantastic passing team, Prairie du Chien made the Chiefs pay for their decision to gamble deep in their own end of the field as Chandler White hit Kyle McCoy, who had completely turned around Alex Yacko for the easy 31-yard touchdown and the two TD advantage with 44 seconds left to play in the first half.
McCoys touchdown sent the Chiefs to an 0-4 start to the 2009 season.
