Reclaiming Kart WR here after exactly 4 years of losing it, as well as Mini Beast's first ever Kart WR for this track which is hype!! Somehow this is also 3rd Spain lol
I have been working on this track on and off ever since I decided to return to the game. This was one of the main reasons that made me come back as a matter of fact. After seeing Blounard's TAS progress (one of the most amazing TASes I've ever watched), I saw 2 potential strats that could be used for RTA; one of them, the left counter drift after canon, which can save quite a bit if lucky, but most importantly, the non stop shortcut.
I've dreamed about reclaiming Kart WR here on Mini Beast for a long time, but I knew it didn't stand a chance. The only part of the track where it gains time is almost at the very end, on the brake + shortcut part. But that's pretty much it. Mini Beast loses quite some time on the rest of the track, plus it's way more inconsistent than Wild Wing since it bounces much more. The bridge at the end still haunts me by this day.
So that's when the non stop shortcut strat comes to play. It's a much riskier strat than the usual strat of just braking again. But as you can see in this video, it saves a decent chunk of time. It's best to aim for the very edge of the gap, since that makes you fall to the ground faster. That made me regain hope, of Mini Beast ever holding Kart WR here.
I hate this run though, mainly because I'm not sure why I continued after that terrible lap 1 mountain section. I didn't even land where I should of, but I guess I was just tired of failing that I decided to keep going. The rest of the lap was great, sure, but I lost around .2, if not more, only due to that. Lap 2 was fantastic, barely edging off Kart best known split. If only I got a better turn after the canon, that would've definitely been it. Lap 3 wasn't amazing by any means, but pretty good regardless. No major bounces on the bridge, which is a blessing in disguise for Mini Beast.
I'm definitely settling myself up for a better time, but I'm not sure if I'll go for the sub. Spanish record, funnily enough is 2:06.947, and it's doable actually, but it would require a flawless run, and that's far from realistic when you are playing DKM on the Mini Beast.
Huge shoutouts to @mkwill5130 for such nice sport, as well as being such a great friend of mine for over 4 years now!! Without this shortcut approach I definitely wouldn't have beaten his time. Even by this day, I still consider him the true goat of the track 🐐
Also please make sure to watch this masterpiece @Blounard created on this track, which was a huge help for me to set this time. Definitely worth watching: • [MKW TAS] GCN DK Mountain (No-Shortcut) - ...
