The Fenix 8 Pro adds LTE and satellite messaging to Garmin's flagship watch, but field testing showed the satellite side has serious limitations. I tested it across hundreds of backcountry miles to see if Skylo's geostationary satellite network can match Iridium-based devices. The LTE works well in coverage areas, but satellite messaging is slow, unreliable in trees or canyons, and requires a clear southern sky. If you need dependable backcountry communication, a dedicated InReach still outperforms it. The watch itself is solid for navigation and tracking, but the satellite feature isn't ready to replace a standalone device.
