80 yr old DINKY TOY aeroplane - COMET RACER 60g
The Dinky Toy comet racer came out from 1934 to 1941 and then reissued from 1945 to 1949. Catalogue number 60g. There are 14 variants of the basic toy.
The actual aeroplane was purpose-made for racing by DeHavilland Aircraft. Only 5 were made The plane G-ACSS (Grosvenor House) won the UK to Australia race in 1938. This actual plane G-ACSS is still flying. The DH Mosquito fighter bomber can trace its heritage back to this plane. I can see Geoffrey DeHavilland saying - "I like this layout. What if we increased the horsepower by ten times..."
