Şirince! Founded By Slaves
Şirince is Amazing. This famous old village which sees millions of tourists each year managed to keep it's charm. Şirince is founded by freed slaves and has grown into this amazingly cute place that is famous for it's fruit wines and coffee making. As usual I arrive there very early in the morning so that I can have a good look at Şirince itself and not the commercial stuff they want me to see and buy. Come along!
Şirince is a neighborhood in the municipality and district of Selçuk, İzmir Province, Turkey. It is about 8 kilometers east of the town of Selçuk. The area around the village has history dating back to Hellenistic period (323–31 BC). Pottery finds made around the village indicate the presence of seven villages and nine farmsteads in the area dating back to ancient and medieval times. On the road up you will see the remains of several Roman aquaducts as the village was an important water source for ancient Ephesus.
