Mediterranean, however, the species of sarago present are only 5: the greater bream, the sarago pizzuto, the saragus, the sarago and the banded sarago. The species that inhabit our seas live in shallow waters, usually between 5 and 120 meters. All species have the classic round and compressed appearance and a silver color often adorned with bands or black spots.
Although the size of the sea bream that can usually be observed near the coast frequented by man is rather limited, some specimens can exceed 40 cm and 2 kg of weight. The bream is a permanent fish, they find shelter inside caves in the rocks that they use as a burrow. They eat in particular sea urchins, shattering the exoskeleton of the echinoderm with their teeth and then eating them. They are also fond of small crabs and invertebrates that live on the bottom of the sea. But the bream have different predators: some inhabitants other inhabitants of the sky. In fact, in addition to fish and amberjack, one of the bitter enemies of the sea bream is the osprey (Pandion haliaetus) who succeeds in capturing the bream grabbing them with their claws when the fish are close to the surface.
