Our experts show you how to make a reflectance measurement. Follow these steps to set up your system, and use the OceanView wizard for guidance. In this video, we perform reflectance and color measurements to demonstrate the process.

What Is a Reflectance Measurement, and how is it used?

A reflectance measurement analyzes the amount of light a specimen reflects versus absorbing or scattering. These measurements are non-invasive and most helpful in determining the precise color and quality of samples. Industries like paint manufacturing and coffee production use reflectance as a technique.

What Tools Do You Need to Make a Reflectance Measurement?

Tools in this demonstration include:

-Ocean HDX Spectrometer with visible near-infrared (NIR) wavelength configuration
-Tungsten halogen light with integrated shutter
-Reflection probe with glass fiber optic cables
Reflection probe holder with 90 and 45-degree angle positioning
-Diffuse reflection standard
Outline of Reflectance Measurement Steps

Conducting a reflectance measurement begins with configuring instruments.

Connect the spectrometer to power output before attaching the reflection probe and the warmed light source with cables. Select the angle measurement capability on the probe holder depending on the diffusion level necessary for your application.

Analyze your measurement standard as a comparison and configure the accompanying software, Ocean View, using the program's wizard for best results.
