From Ship Fuel to Asphalt How Sterling Fuels Grew on the Detroit River

The corporation operates five fuel distribution centers throughout the Great Lakes, including locations in Windsor, Hamilton, and Sarnia.

It is strategically located along the Detroit River, between the Gordie Howe Bridge and the Ambassador Bridge, allowing for efficient distribution and transport of fuel via the Great Lakes. Sterling Fuels operates a 17.7-acre terminal located at 3600 Russell St. in Windsor, equipped with extensive storage, handling equipment, and convenient road and rail access, offering a variety of fuels and lubricants. In 2018, Sterling Fuels Limited was recognized and awarded $32,910 by Union Gas for its energy conservation initiative aimed at reducing its carbon footprint.

More recently, Sterling Fuels has been involved in initiatives related to biofuels. In October 2022, they signed a contract with the Canadian Coast Guard to supply a 20 percent biodiesel blend for the Coast Vessel Caribou Isle. This is part of a broader effort to test various biodiesel ratios in different operational settings.
