I came across this ray-like creature in shallow water just off the beach on Lopez Island in Puget Sound. I believe it's a longnose skate, Latin name Raja rhina. It is upside-down and doesn't look like it will live much longer. Longnose skates are reportedly uncommon here now, though at one time they were frequently encountered in Washington State waters. I didn't think to measure this one, but it was quite large. I first noticed it when walking along the bluff more than 100 feet above the beach.
