Join Dr. Geneive Brown Metzger for a conversation with Prof. Gordon Shirley, former Jamaican Ambassador to the U.S., and Chairman of the Port Authority of Jamaica about port development in the Caribbean—with a focus on Jamaica, and how the country is exploiting its unique assets and becoming more competitive in the regional and global supply chain. Jamaica has 10 ports and receives much traffic from shipping containers due to its strategic location in the Caribbean Sea and being the central shipping lane to the Panama Canal. Its popularity is also due to the relative proximity to large markets in North America and the emerging markets in Latin America. Professor Shirley is also Chairman of GraceKennedy & Co. Ltd., the largest Caribbean-owned food processing and distribution company in the region. He is also chairman of the Caribbean Maritime University.
