The COVID-19 Pandemic has hit the Caribbean hard, significantly contracting the region’s already vulnerable economies. Education has been one of the most impacted, with the futures of hundreds of thousands of students at every educational level threatened. College and university students struggle to keep up by using their mobile phones to access online classes, while others simply had to drop out for lack of any kind of device, as parents lost jobs and could not afford to pay fees or buy equipment.
The ACMF has responded by establishing a COVID Relief Fund and, to date, has donated 18 laptops to students. Grants were awarded to students who were in the midst, or near their final semester of classes, to prevent them from dropping out.
