The 6th of June 1944 is better known as D-Day, the Normandy Landings where Allied forces of the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. Despite the majority of the attacking forces coming from these nations, in truth a whole host of smaller ones contributed to the efforts. Belgium was invaded by the Germans in 1940, on the same day as the Netherlands and Luxembourg, and held out for 18 days together with French and British forces before capitulating. Belgian soldiers and airmen were among those evacuated at Dunkirk, making their way into exile in the United Kingdom where they formed new military units to fight alongside the British and aid in the liberation of the continent after D-Day.
