Hey, first-time homeowners, if you want your AC drain line to keep draining your AC, you need to know how to unclog it. Over time, your HVAC system's AC drain line, aka condensate drain line, can become clogged with accumulating dirt, dust, dead bugs and other debris, as well as a sickening snotty substance called zooglea.

The resulting backup could result in mold growth not to mention the more immediate threat of your home flooding. Ask anyone it's happened to and they'll invariably tell you they never neglected their AC drain line again.
But you can ward off water damage by knowing how to eliminate an AC drain line clog.

Here's how:
1. Turn off your HVAC unit at the breaker.
2. Find the end of your condensate line where the fluid drips out — look for PVC pipe coming out of the side of your house or sometimes leading to a basement floor drain from your HVAC unit.
3. Grab your Shop-Vac.
4. Attach the end of the Shop-Vac hose to the draining end of the condensate line.
5. Wrap the gap with duct tape to create a sufficient seal for strong suction.
6. Turn on your Shop-Vac and enjoy the sweet sounds of suckage as the clogging culprit gets vacuumed out along with all that filthy fluid and other nastiness.
7. Detach the hose.
8. Open your Shop-Vac and admire your work.
9. Turn your HVAC unit back on.
