This brass machinist hammer came from an old machine shop, it had been well used over the years leaving it pitted with deep gouges on the face. Only a tiny piece of handle was still present. Using a grinder and hand files I was able to remove all the scarring and pitting from the face. That left the tedious task of hand sanding up to 2000 grit and buffing which resulted in a mirror finish.
For the handle I used pre shaped hickory. A four way rasp helped to remove material for a tight fit up. A shou-sugi-ban finish was applied to help preserve the handle. Occasional applications of linseed oil will help ensure long life.
