Third Enigma excerpt (Chapman Stick)
I've sort of been on a musical hiatus until more recently - most of my music gear is in storage due to work going on at our home in Scotland but I thought I'd work on putting up shorter, more informal videos with the bits of technology I have around!
This piece incorporates some polychord ideas that are easy to explore on the Stick. In the right hand I play the same progression of 4 chords with some melodic patterns on top, while on the bass side I use a different sequence of related chords each time through. It’s an easy way to come up with interesting harmonic variations on the instrument. Then in the middle there’s a “solo” of sorts on the melody side over a steady chord progression in the bass (which demonstrates a left hand accompaniment style that is well suited to the mirrored 4ths tuning I use).
