Sérgio Rodrigues, a Minas Gerais native who adopted Rio de Janeiro, is a writer, journalist, literary critic, and TV screenwriter. A weekly columnist on language and linguistics for Folha de S.Paulo, he is the author of several fiction and non-fiction books. Among his early works are novels such as *O drible*, winner of the Portugal Telecom (now Oceanos) awards for best novel and book of the year in 2013, and the recently released *A vida futura*, which imagines the return of the ghosts of Machado de Assis and José de Alencar to 21st-century Rio de Janeiro.
João Cezar de Castro Rocha is a Full Professor of Comparative Literature at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). He holds a PhD in Letters from UERJ (1997) and a PhD in Comparative Literature from Stanford University (2002). He was President of the Brazilian Association of Comparative Literature (ABRALIC, 2016-2017). He is the author of 13 books, including Guerra Cultural e retórica do ódio. Crônicas de um Brasil pós-político (Editora Caminhos, 2020); Machado de Assis: Por uma poética da emulação (Civilização Brasileira, 2013).
Moderated by Juliana Santos, who holds a degree in History, a master's degree in Education, and a specialization in Cultural Management. She worked in the literature and libraries area of Sesc SP and is currently a researcher at the Sesc-SP Research and Training Center.
