QUESTIONS ABOUT BRAZIL – GRANDE SERTÃO AND OS SERTÕES - WHAT DO GUIMARÃES AND EUCLIDES SAY ABOUT PRESENT-DAY BRAZIL?

Although very different from each other, these two classics of Brazilian literature continue to move us and teach us about Brazilian reality.

Inspiration for the books: “Grande Sertão: Veredas”, “Os Sertões”, “Sagarana”, “Formação da Literatura Brasileira”. With:

Walnice Nogueira Galvão - Retired Professor Emeritus of the Faculty of Philosophy, Letters and Human Sciences (USP). Wander Melo Miranda holds a degree in Social Sciences from the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters (USP), with a doctorate and post-doctoral degree in the Department of Literary Theory and Comparative Literature. His research focuses on Euclides da Cunha, Guimarães Rosa, and Criticism of Literature and Culture. He has published 40 books. He has taught at several universities abroad. He writes regularly for newspapers and magazines.

Wander Melo Miranda - Retired Professor of Literary Theory and Comparative Literature at the Faculty of Letters of UFMG, Professor Emeritus of the same institution, member of the Minas Gerais Academy of Letters, author of Corpos escritos (1992), Graciliano Ramos (2004), Nações literárias (2010), Os olhos de Diadorim e outros ensaios (2019), editor of A trama do arquivo (1995), Narrativas da modernidade (1999), Anos JK: margens da modernidade (2002), among others. He has published articles in newspapers and specialized magazines. He has been a visiting professor in the United States, Italy, Uruguay, and Argentina. He currently works as a visiting professor in the Postgraduate Program in Cultural Criticism at UNEB.

Moderator Leda Cartum is a writer, screenwriter, and translator. She has published As horas do dia: pequeno dicionário calendário (7Letras, 2012), O porto (Iluminuras, 2016), and Formas feitas no escuro (Fósforo, forthcoming). She holds a Master's degree in French Literature from USP and translated O peso e a graça by Simone Weil (Chão da Feira, 2020). Alongside Sofia Nestrovski, she is a co-writer and narrator of the science and book podcast Vinte mil léguas*, produced by Livraria Megafauna, and author of the book *As vinte mil léguas de Charles Darwin (Fósforo, 2022).
