Jgriag - Svanetian hymn to St. George
This was a touching personal moment for me, having the honor to sing bass with the great singer Murad Pirtskhelani. This is a para-liturgical hymn to St. George, called Jgriag in the Svan language, and is of ancient provenance (no one knows how old this chant is but presumably from the 10th century when the Svanetian mountain region accepted Christianity).
Our hostesses Madona and Ana Chamgeliani sing the top voice, Dato Beridze and I sing the bass voice, while Murad leads with the middle voice part.
