For nearly 40 years, Heal the Bay has vigorously used science, advocacy, community engagement, and education, to fulfill our mission to make our coastal waters and watersheds in Southern California safe, healthy, and clean.
Our Beach Report Card™ and River Report Card™ have become the gold standard for measuring the health of our rivers and the entire Western coastline, and provide up-to-date water quality information for your favorite beaches via our Heal the Bay NowCast app.
Heal the Bay volunteers pick up thousands of pounds of trash along Southern California beaches every year -- a last line of defense against ocean pollution. In fact, 14,000+ pounds were removed in 2022, alone.
More than 100,000 people visit our aquarium annually to learn about the wildlife, habitat, and health of Santa Monica Bay.
Now in its 20th year, our multi-lingual Angler Outreach Program has educated more than 180,000 pier and shore anglers in Los Angeles and Orange counties about the risks of consuming fish contaminated with toxins.
