Hi, my name is Andrew Dahlman. I'm a project manager here at Dewberry in Richmond, Virginia, and I'm part of our energy group. Today, I'm going to talk to you about single-axis tracking systems for solar panel arrays. These systems consist of panels that are attached to a beam that track the sun from east to west, throughout the course of the day. The pros and cons associated with this type of system, with the rotation and following of the sun acts as a pro and that it is higher efficiency, as the panels get more exposure to the sun throughout the day. Some cons associated with this type of system have to do with more difficult design features and tolerances, associated with the moving parts and complexity of these systems; as well as, additional construction tolerances and installation challenges, as opposed to some of the fixed-tilt systems on the market. Additionally, over the length of a project like this, there will be additional costs with the operations and maintenance of a site like this because of the moving parts as opposed to a fixed-tilt system.
