The town is located just 15 kilometers from Bakhmut. In recent months, the settlement has become a main target of occupiers in the Donetsk Oblast.
The town had a pre-war population of 12,000 people, but now has 682 residents. Most of them are people over 60 years old who do not want to leave their native land.
As a result of enemy shelling, there are almost no intact buildings left. Residential buildings, schools, social infrastructure facilities and churches have broken windows, destroyed roofs or are in complete ruins.
