Before streaming, before Blu-ray, before DVD, LaserDisc, and VHS, their was 16mm, 8mm, and Super 8mm. With the advent of Super 8 film stock in the 1960s, Blackhawk Films began issuing their catalog titles in this new format, along with their existing 16mm and 8mm offerings, for purchase and home rental, featuring at the time new restorations of seminal classics for all to see. Now the product of a bygone era, enjoy this look into how cinephiles used to view, collect, and marvel at the brilliance of silent cinema from the comfort of their own homes.
Will Rogers' third comedy for Hal Roach, Uncensored Movies, takes aim at a trio of his screen contemporaries in this satire of cinema scandal. Popular western icons William S. Hart, Tom Mix, and the legendary lothario Rudolph Valentino are sent-up here as Rogers humorously portraits their on-screen characters broadly, while highlighting the ridiculous nature of press and public reactions to silver screen celebrity.
