Broken Signal was quite disappointing, I must say.
Which is a shame, because visually, it’s a truly remarkable level, with the decoration and effects being some of the best I’ve seen. There’s no doubt that the level has quality. However, I just didn’t have much fun playing it... It ended up being more frustrating than enjoyable. The main source of that frustration comes down to poor balancing. Even though this is meant to be an easier extreme demon, the gameplay feels all over the place. The biggest issue for me was the wave at 32%, easily the main chokepoint. The difficulty spike there creates inconsistency that makes it mildly infuriating, sometimes even causing a bit of a mind block. The final section also feels unnecessarily chokeable. I only died there once, but it easily could’ve been more, it just plays awkwardly to me. Beyond the balancing problems, the gameplay itself isn’t particularly that great. It’s not bad, but it’s just okay. The balancing is what pushes it into frustrating territory. Overall, it’s a beautiful level with stunning visuals, but the gameplay doesn’t quite step up to the plate. It had the potential to be one of the best experiences, but unfortunately, it feels like a missed opportunity.
