Wilkes Island Walkthrough - Unintentional Recording
While on Wake in September, 2024, two friends and I made a trip to Wilkes Island for a brief inspection. Shortly after starting our hike I stopped to take video of some seabirds spiraling overhead. After I was done filming I put my phone back in my breast pocket.
Unbeknownst to me, the camera turned on as I put it away, and for the next hour my phone recorded as we hiked across the island, discussed what we saw, and then returned. The battery held out until after we’d crossed the causeway.
So call this “found footage” or whatever you like. It actually turned out decent (albeit at an angle and it swings when I walk). Once my pen slips out of the way the view is pretty good.
