While they might be ok with Queer tourists, what are they doing for their Queer population? Is it actually an equal society?
‘Pinkwashing’ might sound cute, but it’s far from it: Coined by Sarah Schulman in 2011 in her article for the New York Times titled “Israel and ‘Pinkwashing’”, pinkwashing is a large and prevalent issue across many countries whereby LGBTQ+ friendly marketing tactics are used to promote a facade of liberalism.
It’s all very…. Surface level. Especially when used as an inclusivity checkmark to cover up other acts of prejudice! 🍉
