"Nonflowering Plants on the Rensselaer Plateau" with Tom Phillips
Learn about some of the often-overlooked plants in our ecosystems. We will explore the structure, life history and important ecological role of the spore producing plants in our area: mosses, club mosses, ferns and horsetails.
Tom Phillips has a lifelong interest in botany. He worked for almost 40 years as a veterinarian at the Nassau Veterinary Clinic in Nassau, NY. During that time, he pursued his interest by helping organize the Friday Field Botany Group which explores botanically interesting areas throughout the Capital District. He has been an active participant in the Monday Moss study group and now that he is retired, he continues to pursue his interest in Bryophytes performing field surveys and identifications for a variety of organizations including the National Park Service, the NY Natural Heritage Program, New England Botanical Society and for other land conservation organizations.
