Digital Painting Tutorial for Beginners Photoshop

Step 1. Briefly layout the eyes, nose and mouth. Make sure they are on different layers, so that you can move/ adjust them later on. Preferably drawing the right eye first ( the eye that closes to your dominant hand) Don’t worry about lighting for now, layout the desirable color theme (eg. soft tone or dark tone)
Step 2. Add details to the eyes, decide the direction of key light and shadow. Use Ctrl+L in photoshop to change the contrast level. ⠀
Step 3. Add highlights to the eyes, tip of the nose and mouth. That would provide a 3D look to the face, make the lips looks fuller.
Step 4. Continue refining the face. Begin coloring the hair with different hue, be bold. In the example, base color is pink, you can try put purple tone or dark red as its shadows, don’t just use dark pink.
Step 5. Add color that completely opposite to the base hair color, this will give a nice contrast. Finish painting the clothes.
Step 6. quick fix the face with lens correction filter in Photoshop. Input value 20-40. The reason is that... when we zoom in too much while drawing the eyes, the nose the mouth, the face will look like under a fisheye lens after zoom out. eg. selfie yourself close up vs selfie far away. Too close to the camera will result in a bigger face, bigger nose, and less hair 😆⠀⠀
