Shortly after passing the Jägerwirt inn, we park at the abandoned valley station of the Schöckl North Lift, which was discontinued in 1985. From the valley station, the trail (marked as Jägersteig, trail number 16) leads directly and very steeply to the transmitter on the summit plateau. We cross a forest road several times along the way. In the upper section, the terrain opens up, revealing a beautiful snowscape. With an unobstructed view of the transmitter mast, we continue upwards. We then climb the icy ridge, a former ski slope, to reach the summit, heading southwest.
Since the descent via the Jägersteig is uncomfortably steep and we want to do a loop hike, we descend via the long ridge, the Schneid, and then keep to the right. From the saddle, there are two options to return to the starting point of our hike. We take the well-marked trail 19b towards Jägerwirt. The well-maintained, initially steep path leads us through the wooded northern flank of the Schöckl mountain. We rarely walk on the forest road; for the most part, the trail winds through the woods down to the Schöcklstraße road. We then follow this road eastward for a few hundred meters until we reach the valley station of the north lift again.
