How To Film Underwater (ON A BUDGET) | Action Camera vs Phone vs DSLR Camera
Filming yourself underwater is easier than you think and you might already have all the equipment needed. Today I'm going to compare 3 methods of filming underwater to make your mermaid swims even more fun.
If you are a mermaid tail owner you most likely want to capture its beauty and take some cool pictures or videos. Unfortunately not everyone can afford the top quality equipment but there are some really good affordable options that can transform your phone or a camera you already have into an underwater filming device.

1) Cheap action camera (Manta 4K MM9358 dual active - I believe it was discontinued)
This camera was about 40£ (around 45$?) so very affordable but it gets the job done. The quality is not the best and it often comes out slightly grainy but good enough to see what's going on. For this price it's a great option if you want to get into filming yourself casually but you're on a budget. As I said it has been discontinued but there are many similar cheap action cameras that come with a waterproof case. My DIY suction cup handle makes it so easy to stick it onto the wall and not have to worry about it floating away.
Overall score: 7/10 (easy to use even in a public pool, affordable but not the best quality)

2) Phone (in a seawag waterproof case)
This is probably the best option for any "regular person" since pretty much everyone owns a smartphone these days. I quite like how the footage turned out (I did some colour correcting using inshot app on my phone) but I wish I filmed it horizontally. The case was a bit floaty too so another DIY suction cup holder for this one would have been handy.
I had some issues with the water pressing random buttons and zooming in but I discovered that as long as you press the recording button before putting it in water, you should be fine.
Overall score: 9/10 (easily accessible for everyone, cheap case, problems can be solved quickly, best quality footage)

3) DSLR camera in a waterproof case
This was my biggest hope for this swim but unfortunately my camera kind of failed me.
I bet if you had another person to film you and a newer camera it would be a different scenario but without auto focus option in my camera it ended up being pretty much impossible to get anything good. Perhaps with more practice I could get it to work well but for a regular person it's not the best option. It was very floaty and I can't think of an idea for a DIY handle for this camera. The case was also too big for my camera and made it uncomfortable to film at times. The good thing about it was the cheap price and the fact it didn't leak. I might need more practice, another persons help etc. to make it work for me next time. If you have that, it could be a good idea.
Overall score: 5/10 (the case was good enough but my camera failed me. cheap option but a bit risky)
