Silicone is often used as a moulding material but I like to switch things up. After years of research, trial and error and a lot of silicone creations I combined a list of materials you can use to cast silicone in.

These methods work best for all purpose/aquarium safe and platinum cure silicone (dragon skin).
I recommend using a mould release agent with most of these methods.

I love using silicone for my arts and crafts projects - mermaid tails and creations. Making moulds FOR silicone instead of OUT of silicone. It's not a very popular crafting medium but I hope this video will help.
Methods ranking from best to worst (personal choice):
1) Polymer clay - easy to work with, durable moulds, easy unmoulding (shiny, glazed moulds)
2) Polymorph plastic - easy, quick, reusable, durable
3) Plaster - cheap, easy, picks up detail best, good for big projects (I'm not a fan of the texture)
4) Resin - (only experience with resin glazed moulds)
5) Plasticine - not the exact replicas, can be risky, quick, easy, cheap, reusable
6) Silicone (no experience moulding silicone in silicone) sounds risky but I've seen it done
7) Plastic sand toys - fun way if you find cool shapes, hard to customise
