Asakusa Golden Dragon Dance
Asakusa commemorates the founding of Sensoji, Tokyo’s most famous temple, with a golden dragon dance every year in March. According to the legend, the night the temple was founded back in the 7th century, a golden dragon swooped down from the skies and created a forest of a thousand pine trees –symbol of longevity, abundance and prosperity. The dance was so beautiful to watch, it really looked like the dragon was flying over the crowd, diving, twisting and convoluting his body gracefully against the towering pagoda.
