UGM, or Universitas Gadjah Mada, is a public research university located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Indonesia, established on December 19, 1949, just a few years after Indonesia's independence.
The establishment of UGM was initiated by a group of young intellectuals who were passionate about education and aimed to provide higher education for Indonesians. The university was named after one of Indonesia's national heroes, Gadjah Mada, who was known for his wisdom and leadership during the Majapahit Empire in the 14th century.

Some of the most prominent alumni of UGM include Indonesia's first president, Soekarno, and the current president, Joko Widodo.
