A message to World Federation Tourist Guide Associations ( WFTGA) Delegates.
Please watch the video and read the letter sent to you all prior to delegates meetings and voting.
We are a crossroads
WFTGA really needs a full board who will be contributing to their roles, tasks, responsibilities.
It is not fair to have the president and a few board members taking on all tasks.
We need to ensure that WFTGA board is comprised of
1. Area Specific Qualified / Licensed Local Professional Tourist Guides on our board representing
the foundation of who we represent
Not tour operators, tour companies, tour agencies, or full time employees who tour managers, tour directors
( Yes some of us may have other roles , however it should be those who predominantly earn their living guiding )
2. We need people who have skills other than guiding such as being able to manage social media, promotion, with IT skills, etc.
3. People who will fully support the board with more than showing up for meetings
4. Ideally a diverse group from different regions
5. New fresh board members who will bring great ideas
6. People who will dedicate a certain amount of time per week, especially in low season
Please speak to the candidates, ask them questions, get to know them. Learn what skills they have to offer other than being present, are they area specific guides.
Convention: Choose wisely. Get to know each of the bidders, ask them about how it will help guiding .
We ask you to choose wisely, choose by thinking about choosing what our profession needs. Rather than who is popular, charming or only present when it comes time to vote. Some times the quiet ones re the most efficient.
Choose a country not as your next vaction rather one that will help our profession, help promote our profession. One that has a good team and so
Delegates you are the voices and your are responsible for the most important choices we make
Please choose wisely
Remember sustainability starts at home
On behalf of my fellow President Emeritus who will be attending virtually we wish you a fruitful convention
Ruby Roy
President Emeritus WFTGA
