The Black Forest Hiking Disaster
In 1936, a group of 27 English schoolboys went hiking in Germany. Led by their intrepid teacher, Kenneth Keast, the boys attempted a challenging, multi-leg hike that would take them over one of the most beautiful mountains in the Black Forest region. Despite ample planning, five of the boys would not make it to the other side. But as terrible as the incident was, what happened afterward was the true outrage.
